Clarry Eclectic

The Clarry Medal

For a number of years, the Mt Coolum Vets ran a competition called The Top 10 where during the Vets home and away season a players best 10 stableford scores were counted and the winner would receive a monetary prize, in fact the top 5 were awarded prizemoney.

In 2013 the Mt Coolum Vets lost a very affable and popular member through his battle with a long illness. His name is Clarry Rohweder. Clarry was a long standing member of the club, and a previous Vets Captain.

Prior to the 2014 season, a recommendation was made to the committee to change the top 10 to The Clarry Rohweder Top 10. A medal is struck each year and presented to the winner by a member of the Rohweder family.

It was our vets captain (Vin) in 2014 who coined the phrase “The Clarry” and so the tradition was born and continues.

Prizemoney is still awarded to the top 5 placegetters.

The rules are simple – a players stableford score is recorded where you represent Mt Coolum vets in either a home or away game - but the game must be available to all Mt Coolum Vets players. For example, where a club restricts us for numbers below 40 participants, the game and score will NOT be counted towards The Clarry.

The Audi Award

The Audi Award was introduced in 2019, when Captain Philip Doolan repurposed an Audi golf trophy. The Audi logo has 4 zeroes, similar to the score cards of the contenders (although theirs may often have more than 4). The award is given to the player who scores the most zeroes at home Vets games over the playing year. It's an award for golfers who are unlikely to win the Vets championship or the Clarry Medal, but turn up most weeks and enjoy themselves regardless of their daily scores. Very worthy inaugural winner was Horst Baden.

Rules are simple : you can only "win"it once, your name is not engraved on the trophy, and it gets returned at the end of the next playing year for presentation to the next recipient. In the event of a tie, the player with the least amount of games played will be determined as the winner.
